114 Accounting Officers Recommended For Sacking as IGG moves to identify wealth of public servants obtained in the past 5 years

By Marvin Ocol

114 accounting officers could lose their jobs should Parliament approve their sackings.

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Development Permanent Secretary made the revelation last evening on UBC Prime talk show, Behind the Headlines.

“There are entities that have continued to dupe the public that they receive money late and we are reviewing the contracts of those accounting officers,” PS Ramathan Ggoobi specifically told MP Ojara Mapenduzi, “I don’t know if you approved my list. I sent you a total of over 114 accounting officers who should stop being accounting officers.”

He also noted that Finance releases quarterly funds to go to the spending agencies on the 10th day of the first month of the quarter. This, he said, is done publicly with the media present.

Meanwhile, the Inspectorate of Government (IG) has written to Lands Ministry, Uganda Revenue Authority, Uganda Registration Services Bureau, Financial Intelligence Authority and Kampala Capital City Authority in the hunt for wealth of public servants.

This, as IG seeks info on transactions made by 183 accounting officers and 35 top officials of the IG have had with them for the past five years.

According to IGG Beti Kamya, these officials include all Permanent Secretaries of Government Ministries, CEOs of Public Institutions with the biggest budgets, Local Governments with the biggest budgets, and 35 top officials of the IG, including the IGG.
