Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa has tasked her Permanent Secretary to organize a meeting with the fuel dealers and representatives of these Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) before “we take further action to bring back these prices to normalcy.”
“I want to assure the country that we shall not rest until these prices are brought down,” Nankabirwa tweeted Thursday afternoon.
Nankabirwa earlier visited the border points of Malaba and Busia to see for herself what’s happening at these borders.
“I see that Fuel trucks are fast coming into the country and there is available fuel. But my concern is that fuel prices at the pump don’t reflect this. I’ve noticed that some of These Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and dealers must be hoarding fuel and are causing this shortage,” Nankabirwa said adding, “So, together with other stakeholders (Ministry of Finance and URA) of the Petroleum sector and my ministry as a regulator of this sector, We are going to strategically regulate this sector by revising the Petroleum Supply Act and other relevant laws to regulate these OMCs and dealers.”
