UPDF officer held for shooting to death civilian, injuring colleague in a bar brawl

A UPDF officer is being held for murder and attempted murder.
The suspect has been identified as RA191534 PTE Walimbwa Amis, 38; attached to Kibaya army detach under 35th Battalion.
Information available shows that last evening while at Friends Pub pool table and lodge in Rukundo trading centre, Nyarubuye in Kisoro, Walimbwa engaged in a disagreement with Nizeyimana Zepherene, 20; before shooting him in the head. The victim died instantly. Walimbwa’s colleague, RA 256798 PTE Achia William, rushed to offer first aid to Nizeyimana. However, he too, was shot and injured.
Our military sources say Walimbwa has been arrested and his gun, a rifle UG UPDF 48008575, one cartridge and a projectile recovered.
Sources further say that the body was taken to Kisoro hospital mortuary for postmortem and victim admitted at Mutolere hospital.
The army is yet to issue a statement on the incident.
However, the matter is being investigated by Police Vide CRB 338/2022 of Kisoro.
