Gazette Exclusive: A police officer has been arrested and sent to Namalu Government Prisons over theft.

The officer has been identified as PC Abel Hasahya.

Well-placed sources say Hasahya attached to Nakapiripirit Police Station broke into the Station store on October 19, 2022 and stole local waragi in 14 jerrycans. The matter was recorded Vide CRB 334/2022. A probe instituted within the Station led to Hasahya and two civilians who helped in transporting the waragi out of the Station.

While appearing before Nakapiripirit Grade One Magistrate on Wednesday, Hasahya confessed to the crime. His civilian accomplices were freed by court.

However, Hasahya was remanded to Namalu Government Prison.

“Police as an institution does not condone indiscipline from its officers and any officer who commits crime will be dealt with according to the law,” a statement by Mt Moroto Police Spokesperson, Mike Longole reads in part.
