The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety has registered an increase in the number of road crashes.
According to the 2023 Annual Crime Report, released in Kampala on Wednesday morning, the Directorate recorded 23, 608 crashes in 2023. Of these, 4, 179 were fatal, 12, 487 serious and 6, 942 minors.
The increase represents a 15 % increase. In 2022, the Directorate registered 8, 860 crashes.
According to the Director of Traffic and Road Safety, Lawrence Nuwabiine, the crashes occurred between 6pm and 8pm, with the vulnerable being pedestrians.
He said that the age bracket of the lives cut short was below the productive years of 35 years.
