While the Electoral Commission (EC) is yet to declare the Oyam North County seat vacant, seven people have reportedly shown interest in replacing Charles Okello Engola, the State Minister for Labour, who was shot dead by his bodyguard, Pvt Wilson Sabiti early this month. Sabiti would later commit suicide by shooting. Engola’s body was laid to rest in Iceme, Oyam district on Saturday.
During the funeral, mourners reportedly fronted his son, Samuel Junior Engola.
Media reports earlier indicated that six others had shown interest.
They include former ambassador Julius Peter Moto, Alfred Okello Obaro (Iceme Town Council chairperson), and Augustine Obanga Kenekene (a medical worker). Others are Willy Omodo Omodo (former NRM youth vice chairperson for northern Uganda) and Queen Dorothy Amolo.
