SP Vincent Irama: Senior officer arrested over city lawyer’s murder was on promotion list

By Simon Komakech

Superintendent of Police Vincent Irama was on the list of promoted officers, a highly placed source says.

Weeks ago, President Yoweri Museveni promoted 1, 638 senior police officers. The promotion was for officers above the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and above.

A source tells Kampala Gazette that SP Irama among the officers promoted from the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).

However, soon after the list was handed over to the Minister of Internal Affairs, SP Irama was arrested over murder.

SP Irama was arrested as an accomplice in the murder of Ronald Mukisa, 45; a legal officer working with IBC Advocates in Kampala.

“That’s how his name was dropped from the list,” a source tells Kampala Gazette.

Mukisa was shot dead at his residence along Entebbe Road last month. It later emerged that SP Irama hired out his gun to Corporal Max Geoffrey Anyuse, a UPDF deserter from the first battalion of the Mountain Division. The gun was used in the said murder.

SP Irama and Cpl Anyuse acted on behalf of businessman, Robert Karedu and his wife, Brenda Nalwoga.

“Cpl Anyuse, a self-appointed bodyguard to Karedu was then hired as a hitman and on the fateful day, he got a gun that was supplied to him by SP Irama. He trailed the victim up to his home and after parking the vehicle and coming to close the gate, that is when he shot four bullets within two intervals which killed the victim,” Police Spokesman SCP Fred Enanga told the media.

By the time of his arrest, Sp Irama was the Deputy Regional Police Commander, Kampala Metropolitan Police – North.
