Match fixing: Referee Opio, Northern Gateway’s Jogoo banned

By Simon Komakech

The Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) Ethics and Disciplinary Committee has found goalkeeper Franco Oringa, alias Jogoo, of Northern Gateway FC guilty of violating Articles 41 (manipulation of football matches or competitions or match statistics), Article 24(3) (general duties), and Article 42 (failure to report) of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code.

In a statement, FUFA says the Committee analyzed and evaluated the evidence on file and the defense put forward by Oringa and found that he was involved in activities aimed at arranging or influencing the results of matches for betting purposes in violation of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code.

“Mr. Oringa Franco is hereby banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at the national level (administrative, sports, or any other) for a period of five (5) years as of the notification of this decision. Only the grounds of the decision can be appealed against,” part of the statement issued Friday reads.

Opio
Similary, FUFA says referee Deogracious Opio was found guilty of violating Articles 41 (manipulation of football matches or competitions or match statistics), Article 24(3) (general duties), and Article 42 (failure to report) of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code.

“The Committee analyzed and evaluated the evidence on file and the defense put forward by Mr. Opio Deogracious and found that he was involved in activities aimed at arranging or influencing the results of matches for betting purposes in violation of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code. Mr. Opio Deogracious is hereby banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at the national level (administrative, sports, or any other) for a period of ten (10) years as of the notification of this decision. Only the grounds of the decision can be appealed against,” said FUFA.

FUFA says Maganda Saleh (Calvary FC), too, was found guilty of violating Articles 41 (manipulation of football matches or competitions or match statistics), Article 24(3) (general duties), and Article 42 (failure to report) of the FUFA Ethics and Disciplinary Code.

He has been banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity at the national level (administrative, sports, or any other) for a period of five (5) years as of the notification of this decision.

“Only the grounds of the decision can be appealed against,” FUFA said in a statement.
