By Davis Mugabi

Bidco Uganda Limited, the largest manufacturer of fast-moving consumer goods in East Africa, has thrown its weight behind a Ugandan chef, Mama D (real name Dorcus Kirabo), in her quest to break the current world cooking record. The record stands at 119 hours and 57 minutes.

The competition started at 10 am on Saturday, December 23, 2023.

In this support, Bidco Uganda Limited ensured that Mama Dee gets everything she needs in her kitchen. These include washing soap, cleaning soap, cooking oil and fats, curry powder and spaghetti among others. Bidco Uganda Limited is the manufacturer of Fortune Butto, Fortune Gold, Golden Fry, Chipsy, Fortune Spaghetti, Cowboy, Kimbo, Nuunu Curry Powder, Nyama Binzari, Blub Bar Soap, White Star Magic Laundry Bar Soap, Light Star Bar Soap, Magic Soap, Bul Washing Soap, Kuku, Star Natural, White Star Magic Powder and Bleu Breeze.

“I thank Bidco for coming through with this massive products. That I am going to full utilize the products in achieving my goals, as I break the current record,” Mama D said, as she received the products on Thursday at her business premises in Kira, Wakiso district.

Mama D added: “I own a restaurant and a chef by profession. It (Cooking competition) fits well within what I do. It’s an achievement, both for myself and as a profession.”

Mama D is optimistic about bringing the award home.

“I love cooking. I am very passionate about my work. I even speak through food. When i am hungry, you can tell from the meals i make, when i am extremely happy, you can tell. All my moods can be talked within the meals I make. I am bringing this record home. I need the moral support from Ugandans,” she said.

While by Wednesday morning Mama D thinks, she will have won everything, that is there to be won, she intends to carry on with the cooking until Friday, December 29, 2023.

“I intend to carry on until Friday. I am going to make specifically Ugandan meals. I am Ugandan. A girl from Pallisa, and I am trying to sell Ugandan meals. My restaurant makes 80% traditional meals. I intend on cooking a meal from every region of Uganda. Everyone has to feel the love,” said Mama D.
