Police commence probe as armed Thugs visit Bunyangabo MP’s residence in Kampala at 2pm

By Davis Mugabi

Detectives at Kawempe Police Station are conducting an investigation into a case involving threats of violence, criminal trespass, and assault. The incident took place at Komamboga Central, within the jurisdiction of Kawempe Division, Kampala District, on January 10, 2024, at 1440 hours.

The victims of the crime have been identified as Twinembabazi Juliet (22 years old) and Gidong Jalia (18 years old), who serve as house helps.

Preliminary information from the victims indicates that on the aforementioned date and time, three armed individuals forcibly entered the residence of Hon. Kamukama Davis, the Member of Parliament for Bunyangabo Constituency. The MP was not present at home during the incident. However, the assailants found Twinembabazi Juliet, who is an in-law to the MP, along with Gidong Jalia and a child.

Upon entering the premises, two unidentified assailants, armed with knives, approached the victims, making death threats against the MP’s life. A third individual, who stood at the doorway, was allegedly carrying a long black bag suspected to contain a rifle. After failing to locate the MP inside the house, the assailants forcefully confined Gidong Jalia and the child in the toilet, locking the door. Twinembabazi was also confined to the driver’s room. Twinembabazi used curtain rod to hit the glass window, thereby raising an alarm and drawing the attention of neighbors.

This prompted the assailants to escape through a maize plantation. The MP’s home does not have any security guards.

An eyewitness told the first responders that they saw the assailants changing their clothes outside the fence.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Patrick Onyango confirmed the probe.

He said inquiries are underway and that “updates on any new developments will be provided as the investigation progresses.”
