Ten people have been confirmed dead in an accident that occurred at Kibimba along Iganga-Tororo road.

The accident involved six vehicles M/V REG NO. KBJ 156C/ZD 2621 M/BENZ ACTROS, M/V REG.NO. KDY 526G/ZD4391 (M/BENZ AXOR), M/V REG.NO. KDH 407T (TOYOTA LAND CRUISER), M/V REG.NO UAV 597N (TOYOTA HIACE), M/V REG.NO UAW 963M (TOYOTA HIACE) and M/V REG.NO KAE 254C/ZA 5971 (TANKER LOADED WITH MOLASE).

Traffic Spokesperson Michael Kananura confirmed the incident. He said that the incident occurred at 7pm last evening.

According to the initial report, the above motor vehicles were moving the same direction towards Tororo except one M/v Reg.No KAE 254C/ZA 5971 (tanker loaded with molase) which was from opposite direction heading to Iganga when M/V Reg.No UAW 963M(Toyota Hiace) over took a que of motor vehicles named above, the driver realized the oncoming motor vehicle when he was still overtaking, he swerved to his left to give way not realizing that the oncoming vehicle was a trailer tanker loaded with molase, pulling the behind part of the trailer hit the said taxi squeezing it against another trailer KBJ  155C/ZD 2621 M/Benz, the trailer tanker lost control overturned and caught fire. 10 people who included 08 passengersof a taxi, itsdriver and the driver of the trailer tanker died on spot. 

“All the bodies have been taken to Bugiri hospital mortuary pending postmortem,” Kananura said.
