Some time last year, there was a rumored move to have Members of Parliament vote for the president instead of the entire adult Uganda population. Of course it was viewed by some people as a way to reduce polling stations in the country to the benefit of President Yoweri Museveni.

While some people talk about Museveni, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba recently declared his intentions to vie for the top job in 2026.

But insiders say that the four-star General does not back the idea of having MPs vote for President.

Well-placed sources note that while it is important to note that less than 10 MPs (Lilian Aber – Kitgum, Daudi Kabanda – Kasambya, and a few others), the General’s camp strongly believes that once the MPs are given the mandate to vote for President, they also hold the same mandate to “throw you out”
“We don’t buy the idea but we have a solution for that,” a source in MK camp says.
