A lecturer of the International University of East Africa (IUEA) has died in a nasty car accident in Wakiso district.
Kenneth Junio Watiti, 38, died in a tragic accident that occurred in Katooke B involving two vehicles: a white Fuso box body registration number UAT 905Y loaded with charcoal and a silver Platz registration number UAL 192D.
The deceased was a resident of Wamala Zone, Nabweru Division, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District. Kobuhwezi Peace, a 40-year-old businesswoman and resident of Katooke B Cell, was injured in the process.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the Fuso truck, carrying 120 bags of charcoal from Apac District to Katooke, experienced brake failure while traveling from Jinja Kalori. The vehicle overturned, resulting in the fatal accident. The charcoal belonged to Nakiryowa Rehema, 49, a resident of Nabweru.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Patrick Onyango said the body of the deceased was taken to City Mortuary Mulago for a postmortem, as thorough investigations will be conducted to determine the cause of the accident.
“This incident serves as a reminder to prioritize road safety and vehicle maintenance. Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” added Onyango.
