A joint security has Friday evening recovered unexploded ordinances (warheads) for Rocket Propelled Grenades with fuses, anti-tank bombs, mortar rounds and assorted gun cartridges in Aminit Cell, Madera Ward, Eastern Division, Soroti City in Soroti district.
The ordinances were discovered by a resident of the village who thought it was an abandoned scrap metal but upon discovering otherwise, he alerted the Central Police Station (CPS), Soroti Vide SD 86/19/11/2021.
A security source says the ordinances have been removed from the scene as it awaits disposal by experts from the Uganda Peoples Defense Forces (UPDF).
East Kyoga Police Spokesperson, ASP Gregory Oscar Ageca, confirmed the incident saying, “The Uganda Police would like to appeal to the public to be cognizant of the conflict that occurred in Teso sub-region in the 1980s and the 1990s. They thus ought to avoid picking suspicious objects from the bush in the name of collecting scrap. We would further like to inform the public not to be alarmed by the said find, and that there’s no suspected terror linkage.”
Ageca commended the residents of Aminit Cell “for their quick action and vigilance and therefore appeal to the public to take a leaf from the Aminit residents to always inform the Ugandan Police Force, the Uganda Peoples Defences Forces or any security agency on the sight of suspicious devices or persons.”
