Suicide: Man jumps into River Nile, body missing

A man has committed suicide by jumping into River Nile, the Kampala Gazette understands.
The incident happened yesterday at 10:45am.
The deceased has been identified a Samuel Bave, 39, a resident of Kayogera, Muterere Sub County in Bugiri district.
According to eyewitnesses, the deceased came from the direction of Kampala heading towards Jinja town, and was checked by the joint security team at the new bridge.
“He was in a calm mood, but about 200m away from the checkpoint, he jumped into the River Nile,” an eyewitness told the Kampala Gazette.
“He was carrying dark brown bag containing toothbrush and toothpaste, black shirt, black trousers, bus ticket belonging to Link buses,” another eyewitess said.
Fishermen first saw the bag floating on the water and notified police, who responded immediately.
Both police and UNRA cameras have been retrieved, and show clearly that the deceased intentionally jumped into the River.
Regional Police Spokesperson James Mubi confirmed the incident.
He urged members of the public to avoid isolating their beloved ones, show care and support in case of any warnings of suicidal thoughts.
By press time, Police Marines and other private divers were still searching for the body of Bave.
