With great potential Uganda has, challenging Kenya and Ethiopia as the leading coffee producer wouldn’t be a problem but there is more effort required to convince and acquire more export market share for our coffee.
Uganda has an ambitious goal to triple its coffee exports by 2030, but these plans come with conditions that the country must adopt stringent food safety standards if it wants to penetrate Western markets.
Recommendations
1. Enhance its trading relationships with specific countries.
2. Develop the Ugandan coffee brand to increase value.
3. Strengthen farmer organizations and producer cooperatives.
4. Ease access to financing for inputs.
5. Capacity building for off-takers to add value to coffee to earn more revenue.
