A guard in the Western district of Bushenyi has abandoned his duty station after he shot a suspected pineapple thief to death.
The deceased remains unidentified.
Findings show that Vincent Barugahare, 45, attached to Agri Security Company was guarding Mushanga SACCO Main Branch in Nyamufumura, Sheema when his victim came running towards his duty station. The deceased was reportedly running away from an alarm coming from the side of a pineapple garden in the area, but was intercepted by Barugahare, shot and killed.
Regional Police Spokesperson Marchial Tumusiime says the scene was visited by a team of Police personnels from Sheema Police Station and body of the deceased conveyed to Kabwohe HC IV for postmortem while SMG rifle no.UG PSO 5634101799 was recovered with 4 live ammunitions
The suspect abandoned the gun and fled away, Tumusiime says.
