A senior army officer is nursing grave injuries following an accident involving an official car he was being driven in. The incident happened at 2:40pm Friday afternoon along the Kampala-Northern bypass.
The officer whose details will be concealed for purposes of this story was being driven by Arafat Kikomeko when a Tata Lorry (UBL 228Y) moved past their vehicle, registration number H4DF 2796 (Toyota Land Cruiser V8 Army Green in Colour) at the Bwaise flyover. Eyewitnesses say the driver of the Tata Lorry was slightly ahead of the V8 (in the inner lane while facing Busega), while the driver of the H4DF was in the outer lane when the latter attempted to dodge an unidentified saloon car which was parked by the road side, in the process losing control, and crashed in the middle trench before the Lorry hit it from the back.
Eyewitnesses add that the officer was rushed to n unknown hospital by his lead car while the wreckage of his vehicle was towed to SFC (Special Forces Command) garage in Entebbe.
The matter has been recorded at Kawempe Police Station vide TAR 82/2023.
By press time, the lorry driver was having his statement recorded for reckless driving.
