At about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday evening, AIP David Ekwang reportedly shot dead his wife, Cpl. Jennifer Atino, over a domestic matter.
Soon after the crime, he handed himself in at Jinja Road Police Station.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesman Patrick Onyango confirmed the incident.

Jinja Road Police have arrested a police officer on allegations of murder by shooting that happened today at the barracks.
It’s alleged that today, September 5, 2023, at around 1715 hours, AIP Ogwang, a police officer attached to the Counter Terrorism Police, shot his wife dead with a pistol (number not yet identified) while at the Jinja Road police barracks where they have been staying.
The deceased, who is his wife, has been identified as Cpl. Atino Jennifer, attached to the Very Important Person Protection Unit of Police (VIPPU).
The cause of the shooting is not yet established. The suspect, only identified as AIP Ogwang, is currently detained at Jinja Road Police Division awaiting interrogation.
However, we have exclusive knowledge that the deceased had dragged Ekwang to the Child and Family Protection Unit of the Police after he failed to provide for the child.
Ekwang is an officer attached to the CT (Counter Terrorism) tactical base in Naguru.
At the time of her killing, Atino was serving in the Very Important Person Protection Unit of the Police (VIPPU). and was attached to the Parliament of Uganda.
