In a letter dated October 13, 2023, Absa Bank Uganda declined to fund the November 18, 2023, royal wedding on grounds of “scheduled commitments in the period.”

The Bank was responding to the Kingdom’s request ahead of a wedding between the King of Busoga, William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, and Queen Mutesi at Christ Cathedral in Jinja City on November 18, 2023.

However, we have learned that on September 28, 2023, Centenary Bank announced an official financial partnership with Busoga Kingdom.

“Our bank is delighted to be the official financial partner for the contributions towards the Busoga Royal wedding happening on November 18, 2023. We urge the people of Busoga and well-wishers in Uganda and abroad to contribute to this historic event through account number 3100095955 in the names of Kyabazinga of Busoga,” reads an announcement the bank posted on its official Facebook page.

Experts say that it was the partnership between Busoga Kingdom and Centenary Bank that prompted Absa Bank Uganda to decline to fund the royal wedding.
