President Yoweri Museveni has dropped Maj Gen Geoffrey Tumusiime Katsigazi from the position of deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP).

Katsigazi who has since been the acting IGP after Martins Okoth Ochola’s retirement, has been replaced by AIGP James Ocaya as DIGP.

AIGP Rtd Abas Byakagaba has been appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP). Although Katsigazi’s contract was expiring in June, sources say that trouble for Katsigazi stemmed from a property along Kira Road. The property pitted former IGP Ochola and Katsigazi against each other.

While Ochola was in for a court order, Katsigazi was, on the other hand, tasking officers at Kira Road Police Station to stop businessman Yusuf Ssemakula from using his property. On a number of occasions, Internal Affairs Minister Maj Gen Rtd Kahinda Otafiire raised the matter to the President regarding the conduct of Katsigazi.

It is not clear where Katsigazi will be deployed after Police exit.
