The debate around regional parliamentary sittings is getting murkier.
There is a proposal to have Parliament sit in the regions, starting with Gulu, for 3 days.
However, this has met resistance, especially from the opposition. The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, argues that Parliament will spend Shs 5 billion per day on regional sittings. His argument is that the expenditure is not worth it. MPs from the northern region say Ssenyonyi has something against the region.
Amidst that exchange, they reveal that Ssenyonyi was allocated Shs 2.5 billion for his office and that the lawmaker spends Shs 7 million per day.
As it stands, the sittings in the region will go on as planned.
