Alebtong: DEO Summoned, Grilled Over Shs 171 Million Cash

District Education Officer (DEO) – Alebtong has this afternoon been summoned to the Central Police Station, Alebtong and grilled over Shs165, 701, 6667 and Shs 6, 023, 177.
Well-placed sources say that the funds were meant for school facility grant and non-wage recurrent (DEO’s office, Inspection and Special Needs) that were released and spent by the office of the DEO.
This, matter, Kampala Gazette understands came up after Sports Minister Denis Obua’s visit to the district.
Obua is also the area Member of Parliament.
However, our sources say that the money was spent during a period when schools were closed after the Covid-19 outbreak in March 2020.
As a result of this complaint, the DEO Moses Olwit Ocen was summoned and quizzed Vide GEF.10/2022 of Alebtong District.
Regional Police Spokesman Jimmy Okema confirmed Ocen’s summon saying the the suspect was at the Police for statement recording.
By press time, Ocen had been granted police bond.
