An unidentified commuter taxi has killed a police officer and injured another along the Northern bypass in Kampala.

A police statement says “The traffic police at Kawempe last night 06.11.2022, at around 21.15hrs registered a hit and run fatal accident involving Motorcycle registration number UP 7862 and an unknown motor vehicle, at the Bwaise Busega Stage along northern by pass.”

The deceased is No 53429 PC Arinaitwe Anthony, a police officer attached to Kawempe Police Station who died on the way to Mulago hospital, while his rider NO 67649 PC Tumukunde Dickson, an officer police attached to Kawempe Police Station rider was left injured and is currently admitted at Mulago Referral Hospital for medical attention.

It’s alleged that the officers were on motorised patrol on that stretch, when an unidentified speeding taxi knocked them down and continued.

The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mulago city mortuary for postmortem, Traffic and Road Safety Directorate Spokesperson Faridah Nampiima said adding that “With the help of the CCTV cameras, we are trying to establish the motor vehicle that knocked the officers and bring the driver to book.”
