An official of the Bank of Uganda has died in an accident along the Kampala-Entebbe Expressway.

The accident occurred on Sunday morning near Kajjansi Road Toll.

“Tragically, early this morning, a fatal accident occurred on the Kampala—Entebbe Expressway. The car rolled several times, the occupant/driver died on spot,” said Allan Ssempebwa Kyobe, the Spokesperson of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA).

The team in charge of the Expressway at the accident scene on Sunday morning.

“I’m deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a colleague in this accident. May God comfort the bereaved family!” Christine Alupo, a senior staff of the Bank of Uganda, said.

Journalist Patrick Mukasa of NTV Uganda identifies the deceased as Harold Akankwasa.

“Entebbe express has claimed our beloved friend this morning around Kajjansi Road Toll. Harold Akankwasa has been the Financial Institution Examiner of the Bank of Uganda. May his Soul Rest in Peace,” Mukasa said in a post on X last night.

Ssempebwa called for vigilance and observance of speed limits while using the Expressway.

“As we grieve this loss, let’s remember to stay vigilant and observe speed limits at all times for the safety of everyone on the road,” Ssempebwa added.
