Bweyogerere: Child stolen in December recovered in Ntungamo, woman arrested over theft

Bweyogerere Police Station has in custody a woman accused of stealing a child.
The incident (theft) occurred on 27th December 2022, where a child of 5-month-oldidentified as Chebet Najia was abducted. The child has been recovered and suspect arrested.
“We are pleased to report that the victim has been recovered alive from Lutuntu village, Butanda parish, Ihunga sub-county, Ntungano District. The suspect, Namara Elizabeth, a 20-year-old peasant and resident of the same address, was arrested along with her accomplice Begumanya Ambrose. Our investigation revealed that Namara took the child from her mother, Chekwemoi Kuluthum, and deceived her man friend into believing that the child was his,” Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said in a statement Monday. “The suspect had been feeding the child on porridge, milk, water, and local food. Namara and her accomplice were tracked down through phone tracking and are currently in custody awaiting trial.”
Owoyesigyire commended the “efforts of our security agencies in apprehending the suspects and reuniting the victim with her parents.”
“We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the relevant authorities,” Owoyesigyire added.
