REMANDED: Akleo Mugisha
On Friday afternoon, the Anti-Corruption Court of the State House, together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), arraigned Akleo Migisha, an advocate, before the Anti-Corruption Court on charges of forgery, theft, and conspiracy to defraud the Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council (UNMC), a body responsible for the regulation of the nursing profession in Uganda.
He was remanded to prison until June 17, 2025.
The accused, along with several others, including a dismissed magistrate, Cissy Mudhasi, orchestrated a scheme by producing and using falsified legal documents to irregularly obtain an arbitral award from court and unlawfully obtained over Shs 444.3M. They purported to have been contracted by UNMC to develop a software and database application for which the Council failed to pay, thus the fictitious court process that resulted in an irregularly issued garnishment order, which they used to attach the Council’s account, from which they stole this money.
