Crime Report 2022: Boda riders, their passengers accounted for most deaths in road accidents

The Annual Crime Report 2022 released Wednesday shows that 4, 534 road users died in accidents last year compared to 4, 159 deaths in 2021.
According to the report, 1, 404 riders died compared to 1, 390 in 2021. The report shows that 552 passengers on motorcycles died in 2022 compared to 528 in 2021. Most of these accidents happened between 1pm and 8pm.
In general, the Traffic and Road Safety Director of Police registered 20, 394 accidents in 2022. Of these, 3, 901 were fatal, 10, 776 were serious while 5, 717 were minor accidents. However, there was an increase of 16.9% in the number of incidents recorded compared to 17, 443 cases in 2021 with December recording the highest number of accidents (2, 013) followed by March (1, 824) and August (1, 786).
