Decomposing Body of Missing Makerere University lecturer retrieved from Lake Victoria

Jinja Road Police are investigating the circumstances under which a lecturer at Makerere University died. His body was found floating in Lake Victoria.
The deceased has been identified as Mugaga Julius, aged 32, a lecturer at Makerere University and a resident of Kasubi, Mengo, Lubaga division, Kampala.
The incident was reported to the police on May 24 at 1233 hours.
The incident happened at an unknown time and place.
On May 16, 2024, police received information that fishermen had seen a body floating on the shores of Lake Victoria on Senene Island.
According to eyewitnesses, the body was floating, facing up.
The police picked up this information from a WhatsApp group for Luzira.
The police responded to the crime scene and documented it.
They recorded statements from relevant witnesses.
The body of the deceased was picked up from Senene Island by a team of casual experts and brought up to Portbell for easy retrieval.
The body was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, at the scene, police got Aquos mobile phone, a bank deposit slip from Equity Bank dated May 13, 2024, in the name of Mugaga Julius, and a pair of rubber-blue sandals recovered near the body at the shores. The body was found in a decomposing state, dressed in a dark and light blue t-shirt and a pair of assorted colored shorts. The relatives were identified through the missed calls on the deceased’s phone, and one Ssebufu Alex, a biological brother, identified the deceased as Mugaga.
