Kabale: The police are investigating the circumstances under which a student of Solberg College committed suicide.
The deceased has been identified as Nikita Kiconco. She was 21 years old.
Regional Police Spokesman Eli Maate confirmed the incident.
It’s alleged that, on Friday, April 18, 2025, some students of Solberg College left for the Easter holiday. Only about 60 of them remained at school, including Kiconco. On Sunday, most students left the school to attend prayers at Nyabikoni COU at around 10am. Only two students remined, Kiconco and Tusiime Alice. However, they were in different dormitories. Kiconco reportedly claimed to have not been feeling well and was on medication.
At around 1pm on Sunday, when the students came back from church, they found the body of Kiconco hanging with the rope tied around her neck and up on the timber at the roof. Students made an alarm, which attracted the matron, who informed the school head teacher, and upon him seeing the body, he immediately reported the matter to CPS Kabale.
Maate says that the body was retrieved from the scene and taken to Kabale Referral Hospital mortuary for examination.
Investigations are ongoing, Maate said.
