The Embassy of Cuba in Uganda has recognized journalist Alex Masereka.
Cuba’s Vice President, Salvador Valdés Mesa, handed the Commemorative Seal (60th Anniversary of ICAP) to Masereka last Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Uganda Christian University (UCU) in Mukono.
“Alex Masereka. Journalist, in-depth researcher on Fidel and the Cuban Revolution, outstanding member of the Movement for Solidarity with Cuba since 2014, when he made the initial contact with the Embassy of Cuba in Kampala. From then on, he has authored most of the articles on Cuba in Uganda,” reads the citation in part.
Masereka’s experience in the newsroom spans over decades.
Salvador Valdés Mesa was at UCU to close (as Chief Guest) the National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba. The meeting was convened to bring together Ugandan personalities, institutions and organizations linked with the Movement for Solidarity with Cuba, with emphasis on the participation of Ugandan youth.
During the gathering, personalities, institutions and linked organizations with the Embassy and the Movement for Solidarity with Cuba, were recognized for their role in strengthening the Cuba-Uganda relations.
In May 2024, diplomatic relations between Cuba and Uganda will mark 50 years. Activities leading to these celebrations were launched last Saturday at the UCU.
