District officials arrested for operating ghost gov’t school for one year

Five officials of Butebo District Local Government have been arrested for operating a ghost government school.

Well-placed sources say the Ag District Planner, District Inspector of Schools, Internal Auditor, Senior Internal Auditor and , Accountant (Education department) were arrested Thursday afternoon, following an earlier inquiry Vide Gef 06/2022 regarding the operation of a non-existent Kanginima Secondary School between 2021 and 2022.

The Resident District Commissioner of the district, Paul Mwidu Kalikwani, raised a red flag before Butebo Police Station that some district officials were operating the said school with 250 ‘students’ and had been receiving government grants.

Against the above background, an investigation kicked off into the matter,  a process which led to the arrest of five.

Gef 06/2022 Butebo Police Station. More arrests are expected during the course of the probe, a source told Kampala Gazette this afternoon.

By press time, the said officials were being held at Butebo Police Station.
