The Police has confirmed an inquiry into the murder of Bukwo District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Charles Ogwang.
Ogwang was shot dead this morning along Bombo road and his official car burnt down.
In a statement Sunday, Kampala Metropolitan Police said:
Police at Kasangati are investigating circumstances under which a vehicle UG 0865 Z that was carrying the Chief Administrative Officer Bukwo District Ogwang Charles was shot at with him inside and later caught fire.
The incident was reported to Police by locals at 2309hrs on 08/07/2022 after they heard gunshots at Kiryowa, Mabanda, Bombo Road near Banu Petrol station.
The officers from Both Matuga and Kasangati police stations rushed to the scene only to find the car on fire. The Police fire prevention and rescue services responded and managed to extinguish the burning vehicle.
It is alleged that while Ogwang Charles Chief Administrative officer Bukwo was travelling in the said motorvehicle , unidentified assailants shot at him several times causing injuries to him , first responders from a nearby clinic had to rush him to Bombo Military Hospital where he succumbed to the bullet injuries this morning at around 4am .
An inquiry has kicked off to investigate the murder with hope of identifying the assailants and knowing their motive.
However, we have since learnt that Ogwang was wanted out of office as far back as June 10, 2022 by the district LCV Chairperson Moses Chelimo and the District Service Comission Chairperson Edward Batya.
Batya was the first to write to the District Speaker, accusing Ogwang of arrogance while Chelimo wrote the Local Government ministry on June 11, 2022 accusing Ogwang of absenteeism and arrogance and went on to demand that without a new CAO in office, they would lay down their tools.
