Deputy Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Lt Gen Peter Elwelu has asked the new Military Police Commandant, Maj Gen Don Nabasa, to make sure that he does not let down the appointing authority.

Lt Gen Elwelu reminded Maj Gen Nabasa that his new position is a recognition and trust that the leadership has placed in him.

“Don’t play around with titles; they are very important. It means the authorities have put trust in you and still believe in you,” Lt Gen Elwelu said.

To Brig. Keith Katungi, the Deputy CDF commended the outgoing Commandant for having distinctively served as Commandant during his one-year tour of duty in Military Police.

“You came at a time when we were having a very serious event in our country, the 2021 General Elections. It was an important task for the entire country and I have no doubts that you will perform very well in your new assignment in Somalia as Uganda Contingent Commander under AMISOM,” Gen Elwelu said.

Brig Gen Katungi, the outgoing Commandant expressed gratitude to the President and the UPDF leadership for the trust, confidence and co-operation they accorded him during his tour of duty. “I thank the Commander-in-Chief for giving me the opportunity to serve as Commandant Military Police Brigade and also for the new appointment as the Uganda Contingent Commander under AMISOM,” Brig Gen Katungi said. 

In his acceptance remarks, Maj Gen Nabasa equally thanked the Commander-in-Chief and UPDF leadership for the opportunity and confidence entrusted in him to command the Military Police Brigade.

“As we advance our core values of service, patriotism, justice and sacrifice; you, our leaders have maintained the forces on our historical mission and providing security so as to enable Socio-economic transformation of our country,” said Maj Gen Nabasa.

The handover ceremony at Makindye Military Barracks was witnessed among others by the Deputy Commander Land Forces, Maj Gen Sam Okiding; Commander 1 Div Maj Gen Sam Kawagga; Deputy Chief of Military Intelligence, Brig Gen Charles Asiimwe; Deputy Commander Special Forces Command, Brig Gen Felix Busizoori; Deputy Director General ISO, Lt Col Emmy Katabazi; Deputy Commandant Military Police, Col Gai Mpandwa; MP Brigade Operations and Training Officer, Col Napoleon Namanya; the Resident City Commissioner, Kampala, Hudu Hussein; Deputy RCCs, Kampala, Commander Kampala Metropolitan Police, SCP Stephen Tanui, other UPDF and sister security agencies’ senior Officers and leaders from Kampala.
