Lira/Kabale — Dr. Charles Otak, a pathologist attached to Kabale University, has died following a road traffic accident while traveling to Lira Regional Referral Hospital (RRH) to regularize his appointment.
The Uganda Medical Association (UMA) confirmed Dr. Otak’s death on Sunday, describing it as untimely and tragic.

“With deep sadness, the U.M.A NEC announces the untimely passing of Dr. Charles Otak, Pathologist at Kabale University. We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. May God grant comfort and peace to all who mourn him,” UMA said in a statement.
Preliminary information indicates that Dr. Otak was traveling from Kabale towards Lira when he was involved in a fatal road traffic accident. He was en route to finalize administrative processes related to his appointment as a pathologist at Lira RRH.
Following the accident, his body was conveyed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, where it is currently being held.
Dr. Otak was a respected medical professional and academic, known for his contribution to pathology services and medical training at Kabale University. His death is a significant loss to the medical fraternity, particularly at a time when specialized health professionals remain scarce in the country.
Details regarding burial arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family.
