There was drama in Budaka yesterday after locals grabbed a dead body from Police and transported it by bicycle.

Kajebe Mutebe, 25, a resident of Idudi ‘A’, Nassanga Sub County in Budaka drowned at 10am yesterday. This was after he went fishing with his cousins identified as Ivan Magino, 27, and Franco Kirya, 22, on River Mpologoma.

However, Magino and Kirya say Mutebe, out of nowhere, jumped in the water.

“We tried our level best to rescue him but in vain,” they told Budaka police in a statement.

A search led to Kajebe’s body at 4pm last evening.

However, before Police surgeons and detectives could do their work, the community became violent, grabbed the body and placed it on a bicycle, off to Idudi.

Bukedi Region Police Spokesperson ASP Immaculate Alaso says “efforts are in place to get the body for a postmortem examination to understand the circumstances surrounding his (Kajebe’s) death.
