A police officer has died as result of mob action.

The officer has been identified as No. 45549 PC Wakulu Sedulaki, a resident of Lyama Village, Lyama Sub County in Budaka District.

The incident happened last night in Budaka.

Preliminary information indicates that last night at Nampagala village, the deceased was found in front of the door of a store. The store belongs to one Ivan Okoboi. It is reported that the deceased attempted to run away when he saw Okoboi.

However, an alarm attracted neighbors to pursue him. He was caught and beaten up by the mob on allegation of being a thief.

It was established that while he was being assaulted, the victim told the mob that he is a police officer attached to Police headquarters in Naguru, Kampala.

Regional Police Spokesperson, Immaculate Alaso, says that Police from Budaka CPS was informed and had him rushed to Budaka health centre IV for treatment.

“Unfortunately, he passed on this morning,” Alaso said in a statement Sunday.

Alaso added: “We continue to investigate every lead that we receive, as we work to secure justice for the victim and his immediate family.”

“We, have, meanwhile intensified our community policing initiatives in the community to purposely sensitize the public about the dangers of taking the law in their hands.”
