Exclusive: Hospital staff arrested after they put X-Ray machine components as security in 1.2 million loan

Staff of Arua Regional Referral Hospital have been arrested after they put as collateral X-ray machine components in Shs 1. 2 million loan.

The suspects are: Billington Abila, Alex Okello and Bernard Olul. They are all attached to radiology department at the facility.

Regional Police Spokesperson Josephine Angucia confirmed the arrest.

What happened..

According to Hillary Onziga, the T.B ward and X-Ray machine in charge at the facility, on 06.02.2022, like any other normal day, he tired from work and left every component of the x-ray machine intact.

However, upon reporting to work the next day, a HP laptop (silver in color) and a Samsung Galaxy Tab were missing.

When he followed up with Abila, the in charge – Security, he feigned ignorance about the whereabouts of the missing components of the X-Ray machine.

Onziga then reported the matter to the Central Police Station, Arua Vide CRB 153/2022.

It is then that Abila, Okello and Olul were arrested.

However, the laptop and Sumsung phone were retrieved from a money-lending firm, Furaha Link Ventures Ltd – Arua branch, from where the suspects had put the gadgets as collateral in Shs 1. 2 million loan.

Angucia says that the file against the suspects is ready and sanctioned.

However, by press time, they were still detained at Arua CPS.
