FMD In Rubaga: Govt bans sale of meat in Kampala

Following an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Kabowa, Lubaga Division, Kampala, Kampala District (as reported on February 28, 2024), the Government has imposed quarantine restrictions on Kampala District, as per the Animal Diseases Act, cap. 38.
Movement of cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and their products and by-products from, to, through and within Kampala Capital City Authority, Kampala District is prohibited until further notice.
The Commissioner, Animal Health in the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Dr. Anna Rose Ademun, qided in a letter dated March 1, 2024, that livestock markets, slaughter places, including butcheries, loading grounds and animal shows in the entire district is hereby closed with immediate effect.
“The Local Government Administrators, DVO, LCs, Chiefs, Enforcement personnel and General Public are requested to enforce quarantine restrictions as per the Animal Diseases Act, Cap. 38.,” Dr. Ademun said in a letter to the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). KCCA received the letter on March 7, 2024.
