The Traffic Police in Luwero District are investigating a serious road traffic accident that occurred in the early hours of Friday morning, August 1, 2025, at approximately 4:00 AM in Kabanga village, Kikyusa Town Council.
The crash, which happened along the Luwero–Kikyusa murram road, involved a rear-end collision between a stationary white TATA lorry, registration number UBS 925E, loaded with sugarcane, and a white Toyota Hiace taxi, registration number UBL 426H. The taxi was carrying police recruits from Busoga region en route to Kabalye Police Training School in Masindi District.
According to preliminary findings, poor visibility caused by dust along the murram road is believed to have contributed to the accident. The taxi is reported to have rammed into the stationary lorry, which was improperly parked on the road without warning signals.
The victims identified from the taxi include:
- Okello Kevin, 22, from Kakira, Jinja
- Moru Shaban, 24, from Jinja
- Kirunda Joseph Eric, 20, from Bugweri District
- Muzito Emmanuel, 34, a conductor residing in Mbiko Trading Centre
All four sustained injuries and were rushed to Luwero Hospital Kasana for medical attention.
Both drivers of the involved vehicles reportedly fled the scene. Police have since visited and documented the accident site, capturing photographs and preparing a sketch plan as part of ongoing investigations.
ASP S. Twiineamazima, Public Relations Officer for the Savannah Region, confirmed the incident and urged all road users to exercise maximum caution, particularly when driving under poor visibility conditions. He further warned against the dangerous practice of parking vehicles on or near active roadways without proper warning measures.
“Investigations are underway, and further updates will be communicated in due course,” ASP Twiineamazima added.
