Energy Minister Ruth Nankabirwa has commended the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) teams at the border points who have “worked tirelessly to make sure that there is normal traffic flow at the border with a record clearance of over 500 trucks a day into the country.”

Nankabirwa this morning took her time off and visited Busia and Malaba border posts to appreciate the backlog of trucks in the two areas.

Following her visit, Nankabirwa assured the country that “we shall not rest until these prices are brought down.”

“I see that Fuel trucks are fast coming into the country and there is available fuel. But my concern is that fuel prices at the pump don’t reflect this. I’ve noticed that some of These Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) and dealers must be hoarding fuel and are causing this shortage,” Nankabirwa said adding, “So, together with other stakeholders (Ministry of Finance and URA) of the Petroleum sector and my ministry as a regulator of this sector, We are going to strategically regulate this sector by revising the Petroleum Supply Act and other relevant laws to regulate these OMCs and dealers.”

Nankabirwa says that she has further tasked her Permanent Secretary to organize a meeting with the fuel dealers and representatives of these OMCs before taking further action to bring back the prices to normalcy.
