GCW Tayebwa speaks out on proposal for MPs to elect President

By Daniel Mwesigwa

Government Chief Whip, Thomas Tayebwa, Thursday opened up on the alleged proposal to have Members of Parliament elect President.

Yesterday, there were voices within the opposition that the ruling government is plotting a move to have the President elected by MPs.

Leader of Opposition Mathias Mpuuga (MP) tweeted last evening.

However, according to Tayebwa, as NRM Caucus, “we are yet to receive this proposal.”

Tayebwa added: “However we must appreciate that the proposed system is one of the known political systems practiced by successful democracies like Great Britain, Italy, Canada etc. Once proposed, full consultations will be made with stakeholders.”
