RIP: Ssegirinya

An aide to President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that the government spent Shs 1 billion treating deceased Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya.

Ssegirinya died last week and was laid to rest on Sunday.

In a post on X on Monday, Faruk Kirunda, the Deputy Press Secretary to the President, said, “I was hoping that Hon. Ssegirinya’s burial would go without incident, but the behavior of NUP left many questions to ponder. What was the meaning of refusing the government to bury him, yet the government paid about Shs1 billion for his treatment?”

According to Kirunda, “Govt was also in charge when he was accorded a special tribute session in Parliament.”

“Why did the party not reject that?” he wondered.

Kirunda said that the deceased and his family were responsible for choosing the hospitals where he was admitted.

“If there is any claim that he was poisoned, have any of those hospitals independently released a report to that effect? Wouldn’t it be in social media by now?” said Kirunda.

He wondered, “What does NUP think of the family that is suffering double jeopardy: losing a son, father, brother, husband, and in-law and seeing him dishonored so much at his last salute?”

Kirunda says that “This kind of political play will bring a curse on our nation if it continues like this.”
