Dr. David Opwonya of Anaka Government Hospital in Nwoya is in trouble.
His trouble stems from an operation in which government drugs were recovered at St. Mary’s Medical Centre in Gulu. It is owned by Dr. Opwonya.
Two of his employees were arrested.
They are:
- Okello Simon, a 28-year-old male who serves as the clinical officer in charge at St. Mary’s Medical Centre in Green Valley cell, Laroo-Pece Division, Gulu City.
- Ayot Shalome Proscovia, a 26-year-old female who works as an administrator at St. Mary’s Medical Centre and resides in Tegwana cell, Vanguard Ward, Laroo-Pece Division, Gulu City.
Police Spokesman Rusoke Kituuma confirmed the arrest.
According to police, on December 10, 2024, at around 15:30 hours, police at Gulu Central Police Station received a tip-off from a whistleblower regarding the presence of government-issued drugs, a computer, and five outpatient register books being utilized at a private health facility named St. Mary’s Medical Centre. The facility is located in the Green Valley and Custom Corner cells within Gulu City. Notably, the computer found on-site was marked as government property.
It was against the above background that Okello and Ayot were arrested pending further investigation.
