Over 25, 000 Ugandans are yet to pick their passports from the different Internal Affairs branches across the country.
Simon Mundeyi, the Spokesperson of the Ministry says that while the passports remain uncollected, messages have been sent to the owners so they are notified to pick them.
Immigration prints about 3, 000 passports every day. As a result, Mundeyi says the storage space is filling up.
Mundeyi says that for a number of reasons, some applicants don’t receive messages because they either entered the first figure in their phone numbers as a letter and not a figure. He says the system cannot sent a message because of that. Secondly, Mundeyi notes that other applicants use brokers and those intentionally don’t fill in their correct contact. Mundeyi has appealed to the applicants to collect their passports.
