Jaguar Bus Crash: Alebtong Resident, Awany, among the dead

Traffic and Road Safety Police has confirmed that eight people died following a road crash involing a Jaguar bus and a truck on Sunday morning at Kabaale-Bugonzi along the Masaka-Kampala highway.
The deceased have been identified as:
1. Amaali Topista, a female adult aged 39 years, is a teacher and passenger on the bus.
2. Tushabomwe Hedwig, a female adult, 35, and resident of Entebbe.
3. Acam Angela, a female adult, a teacher, and a resident of Kampala.
4. Awany Moses, 46, and resident of Alebtong district. He was a passenger on the bus.
5. Munyandamusa Marc, 53 years old, a Rwandan national.
6. Natukunda Everlyn, 31, and resident of Kyegera.
7. Akalizza Lizzy, 28, a Rwandan national.
8. Kayinamura Steven, 51, a Rwandan national.
The deceased were all passengers on the bus.
20 others were injured in a fatal road crash that occurred at approximately 3:30am. The fatal crash occurred at Kabaale-Bugonzi along the Masaka-Kamapala Highway, involving motor vehicles UBP 964T (Isuzu Bus) belonging to Jaguar and UAV 988N Isuzu Elfu.
The driver of the Jaguar bus attempted to overtake an unidentified vehicle by drifting into the opposite lane, colliding with the oncoming Isuzu Elfu. The bus rolled multiple times, claiming the lives of 8 passengers and injuring 20 others.
“Prompt response from territorial police ensured victims received medical attention at Masaka Referral Hospital, while the deceased were conveyed to the hospital’s mortuary. Both vehicles have been towed to Lukaya Police Station for further investigation,” said Traffic Police Spokesman Michael Kananura.
He urged all road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere to traffic regulations, especially when overtaking, to prevent such tragic incidents.
