Karamoja: Museveni finally appoints right man for the job as Minister
By Executive Editor
For some time now, there have been questions about why President Yoweri Museveni continued to appoint non-Karamojong as Minister in Charge of Karamoja Affairs.
The last batch of ministers (Mary Goretti Kitutu and Agnes Nandutu) stole iron sheets.
Apart from stealing the iron sheets, there have also been issues around the priorities of Karamoja Region, with arguments that the Karamojong do not need iron sheets.
On Thursday evening, the president shuffled his cabinet.
Kitutu was dropped from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) as Minister for Karamoja Affairs.
Nandutu, too, was dropped.
The President appointed Peter Lokeris as Minister in Charge of Karamoja Affairs. Lokeris was at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development as Minister of State in Charge of Minerals.
It remains to be seen how Lokeris will steer his region as minister.
