Karuma Bridge undergoing repairs last year
The Ministry of Works and Transport has adjusted the date for closing Karuma Bridge.
The bridge was to be closed off again, starting on March 17, 2025, to facilitate the installation of expansion joints, according to the Ministry of Works and Transport.
However, Allan Ssempebwa, a communication officer in the MOWT, says that the bridge will now close on Monday, March 24, 2025.
“Karuma Bridge is NOT closed and will NOT be closing tomorrow [17th March] as earlier anticipated! A new closure date is to be communicated as soon. The team is putting final touches [repairs] on the Masindi Port ferry to be able to accommodate traffic when the closure of the Karuma bridge [for installation of expansion joints] is finally announced,” Ssempebwa posted on X, returning with an update later. “Latest Karuma Bridge closure date: Monday 24th March, 2025!”
The Karuma Bridge was closed for major repairs on September 23, 2024, and partially reopened to light vehicles on December 20, 2024.
