Karuma Bridge: One dead in Murchison Falls National Park Accident

By Simon Komakech

One person has been confirmed dead following an accident in Murchison Falls National Park.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night.

According to Bashir Hangi, the Head of Communication and Public Relations at the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), “one person died and another sustained injuries when this vehicle got into an accident yesterday as it slopped down the escarpment in Murchison Falls National Park.”

Heavy vehicles are currently barred from using Karuma Bridge. Only vehicles carrying up to 28 passengers or less are currently using the bridge. All heavy vehicles are using the Park route.

However, Hangi says, “Be more careful when driving inside the park where you are not familiar with the road. Follow the park rules; be safe!”

Earlier, Hangi said there was huge traffic in the park.

“This huge traffic will undoubtedly cause stress to animals and possibly result in road kills. Plan your trip early, aware that there will be inconveniences. Cooperate with park authorities and observe park regulations.”
