Police in Nasana have recovered a child that was kidnapped by the house maid.

A maid identified as Sylvia Nakawuki, 16; disappeared with Natasha Tumwebaze, 6, on 8/12/22 before demanding for money from the mother.

The mother of the child, Rebecca Nanono, a self-employed business person in Kazinga, Kyebando, Nasana Municipality in Wakiso district says Nakawuki first demanded Shs 500,000 from the grandmother of the child and later started asking for Shs 20,000 for feeding the child.

It is then that the matter was reported to police.

Kampala Metropolitan Police says that the two suspects were arrested and that upon interrogations, the two claim the child was seen just moving within areas of Bwaise while the suspect was begging for phones from boda boda riders for communication. The suspects were released later.

“Through the help of local leaders of boda boda community today 14/12/2022 at around 1300 hrs the suspect was arrested within the jurisdiction of Bwaise with the victim. They were taken to Nansana police station pending interviewing and medical examination on the victim,” KMP Spokesman Patrick Onyango says.

He commended the boda boda community in Bwaise for joining hands together with Police in order to look for the suspect and the victim, “which has yielded results.”
